Ceud Mile Failte
Welcome to the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games. My name is, Wendy Walker Davis, I am the new Executive Director of this glorious event. The first thing I want to do is give a big Texas thank you to Wise County and the City of Decatur for all the advice & hospitality that has made this transition from Arlington to Decatur possible. Our relocation committee had a daunting task with a ridiculous timeline. The committee took finances, venue flexibility, parking & community support into consideration choosing Decatur, TX as the location for the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games.
We are proud that our event is one of the largest Scottish gatherings in the United States and known as the preeminent Scottish Entertainment Festival in North America. We worked hard and fast this year to bring you top Scottish Entertainers and Pro Athletes.
I want to formally thank Ray McDonald, Executive Director of this event for the past 30 years. He and his wife Terry have worked year after year to bring you this exciting event. Ray & Terry have agreed to help with the transition and when you see them around the festival make sure you say hello and thank them for their service.
My family and I first attended the Texas Scottish Festival in the year 2000. We had just moved from Chicago, IL to McKinney, TX and we were looking for family friendly things to do in our new community. The festival did not disappoint and we have attended or volunteered every year since. The festival has been a great way to share my father’s Scottish culture with my family. He is the wee kilted one in the picture.* The picture is of my father, his mother, and his three Walker Brothers arriving in Highland Park, IL from Scotland in 1949. Working on the festival reminds me of my family. Together with all the festival volunteers, we hope to carry on the tradition of the Texas Scottish Festival for another 30 years.
A very special welcome to our visitors from across the state, region and around the world. CEUD MILE FAILTE “a 100,000 welcomes” to all.
